My dive into the LUSH way of life.

I did it. I gave in to the hype. I went to LUSH 😛

I know this is going to be a really long post, and a very pointless one, so if you have better things to do I encourage you to go do that instead *haha* However, the name of the blog is “Hi, I’m random”, so… random it is!

So what did I get?
(Oh, just before I get into the products I’d like to mention that I’ll insert the product descriptions from the LUSH UK website. It’s not my beautiful wording, you’ll have to thank the people at LUSH for that 😛 )

”Jumping Juniper” solid shampoo bar.

Perfect for when hair needs a really deep clean. Juniperberry gets to work regulating sebum production, clearing the scalp. We’ve also used calming lavender and antibacterial rosemary essential oils to soothe and cleanse the scalp. Lemon and lime oils give shine, as they help the cuticles on your hair lie flat, enabling them to reflect more light.

I absolutely love the scent of this one – it’s really fresh and light. I mainly get lime/lemon, but there definitely is a clear lavender undertone. My bar didn’t have the lavender branch-thingy you can see in the picture, it’s just plain purple.
As I’m writing this I can’t really say much about whether or not it helps reduce greasiness as I have been very active and sweaty (read: showering at least once a day) ever since I got the shampoo. However, it really does leave my hair squeaky clean and shiny (not that I’ve ever had a problem with dull-looking hair, but still).

”Soak and Float” solid shampoo bar.

A no-nonsense shampoo bar. Cade oil is derived from juniper and has long been used to treat psoriasis, dandruff, and eczema. Rose and marigold petals calm things down and soothe redness. All good things to help soothe scalps.

The scent  of this one is just as nice as the one of ”Jumping Juniper”, but it’s entirely different. I feel it’s a much warmer, more cozy scent. Very different, but very nice 🙂

I’ve only used this bar once (mum has been using it more), so I really can’t say much… It didn’t leave my hair heavy, and my scalp wasn’t itchy.

I read some of the online reviews, and watched a bunch of videos on YouTube, and a lot of people said the scent of the shampoo bars doesn’t stay in their hair once washed out – I disagree! I can definitely smell them even the following day (and on my pillowcase 😛 ). Sure, the smell isn’t very strong, but I don’t see why it would need to be.

I am definitely sold on the solid shampoos – love, love, love! I really want to try “New” (cinnamon scented!), and “Braziliant” (orange/tangerine scented) as well.

”American Cream” conditioner.

A strawberry-loving, milkshake-scented cheerleader for silky Hollywood hair. Warning: has been known to bring boys to the yard. Indulge in this rich and divinely perfumed hair conditioner for shiny, addictively sweet locks you’ll want to swish all over town. Fresh strawberries gently cleanse the hair, while a splash of orange juice encourages the cuticles to lie flat and reflect more light for seriously gorgeous gloss.

Soothing clary sage and lavender ensure your scalp gets plenty of pampering too, calming the skin to get you feeling perfectly groomed from root to tip. A mouthwatering strawberries and cream perfume is the cherry on top of the cake. Damn right, it’s better than yours.

As it says this one should smell like a strawberry milkshake, but I’m not getting any of the strawberry. In my opinion it smells like a very creamy vanilla custard. I’ve also not put it on my scalp, but on the lengths of my hair, so I can’t say anything about the “scalp papering”. It leaves my hair soft and smooth, not at all weighed down!

I got a small/medium sized bottle of this to try at first, but I’m definitely going to buy a giant bottle next! Love, love, love!
Perhaps my favourite thing about American Cream is the fact it is free of silicone, meaning there is no “slick coating” on the hair when you apply it. Also, when I rinse it out there is no slick feeling on my back and shoulders! A little goes a long way, and it rinses out easily. 10/10 would recommend (as long as you don’t need a very thick conditioner, as this is more liquid-y).

”Mask of Magnaminty” face and body mask.

A minty, multi-purpose mask with a mixture of gentle yet effective ingredients, including honey and kaolin, to help you maintain your magnificent skin.

Easily smoothed over the skin, this mask is made with peppermint oil to stimulate, marigold oil and chlorophyllin to treat the skin; evening primrose seeds and aduki beans to gently exfoliate as you wash it away.

There’s mineral rich kaolin to nourish, honey for its antibacterial properties, and we used just the right amount of peppermint oil to stimulate blood cells under the surface of your skin and leave your skin looking bright and refreshed.

But why choose self preserving?

This marvellous mixture keeps itself clean without the help of synthetic preservatives. That’s because the hydrating antibacterial honey that keeps your skin clean and fresh, does the same to the formula and prevents it from growing microorganisms. Clever!

The extra honey in this formula gives the mask a more luxurious, thicker texture than its preserved counterpart – meaning it does not dry on your skin in the same way as the preserved version. When it comes to choosing between the two, it all comes down to preference.

(…sorry for the long description)
I got the self-preserving kind since both the classic and the self preserving one were the exact same price. You can certainly smell and feel the honey in the mask, and I think the honey is what makes the mask feel very hydrating (as mentioned in the prodcut description) despite being targeted towards oily/combination skin.

”Outback mate” bar soap.

Get clean down under with this zingy blend of eucalyptus, lemongrass and peppermint. Wake up with a smile on your face, or put one there with tingly peppermint, and lemongrass to uplift. Eucalyptus clears and cheers in this refreshing soap that’s perfect to wash away the blues.

I’ve not used this one yet, but the scent is so fresh! Really minty and just ah 😛 Also, it’s so pretty! I love the different shades of blue swirls ^^

”Bohemian” bar soap.

One of your favourites (and ours), this is a solid soap with a light citrus scent. A simple but powerful blend of lemon oil and glycerine, with a palm-free soap base. Bohemian is gently cleansing, perfect for adding a little lift to your day. We put lemon oil in here to act as a pick-me-up, refreshing your mind and mood.

I’ll admit it’s not much to look at, but in its simplicity I think it’s quite a beautiful soap. I cut a super thin slice off of this one just to try it (#impatient) and it leaves behind the most natural lemon-y smell! Ah, lovely!

I cut each of the soap bars into 4 pieces and even so they’re on the big side, so I’ll probably cut them in half before using them. Right now they’re wrapped in cling film to keep them from sticking to everything and anything they touch.

The store was also handing out small tubs of their ”Volcano” foot mask.

When you’re on your feet all day, this is the perfect pick-me-up. The cooling and invigorating mask contains powerful deodorising ingredients and brightening papaya, while the pumice means it also doubles up as a foot scrub. Ideal for warming wintry feet, or for getting summer sandals-ready.

Certainly a nice surprise! I have tried it once, and I have to admit it was quite a hassle… I didn’t wrap my feel in cling film (as they recommended), but instead wet my hands and rubbed my feet to keep the mask from instantly drying. There is some tomato in the mask, and to me it smells like ketchup … slight ew. However, it did nicely exfoliate my tired little feet… Nothing too exciting though.

As far as my shopping experience went I have to give the customer service a full 10 out of 10. Everyone was really happy, helpful and seemed to really care about the products (can’t wait to pop by for another visit 😉 )

The story of my OTD

(for future reference: OTD= obsessive tea drinking)

My first encounter with this divine drink was through summer camp breakfasts. For some reason I thought lemon tea was the way to go (perhaps one of my friends had tea, I don’t know). I believe I went overboard with the lemon tea, because I couldn’t bear the thought of drinking it for a number of years following camp.

My next obsession was mint tea… Once again I went overboard with it and found it impossible to drink for several years.

I have now reached perfect balance in my OTD when it comes to what teas I drink (… balance = drink all of them), and as a result I have dedicated an entire cupboard (read: 1.5 shelves) to my “collection”.

You may be wondering “Why on earth is this crazy person going on about their OTD? Who cares?”, which isquite an appropriate response. It just so happens that I hate coffee with a passion, and I consumed my first ever coffee today (capsule Café au lait… It was ghastly!) In an attempt tomake up for this terrible experience I had lemon tea for the first time in forever, and it brought back so many memories 😛 ❤

Anyway, this was a little peek into my life with OTD, I will now return to my little tea cabinet to nest!

Why do I love English?

Yes you read right – I LOVE English!
If I’m completely honest I don’t quite know why, so this post will most likely be very weird and sort of… confusing? Anyway, there is a reason for this post  (believe it or not). That reason is as simple as this: there was an English speaking guy on the bus! Before thinking I’m a complete lunatic please take a moment to embrace the fact I’m Finnish.
To make it simple. I. Live. In. Finland.
People. Speak. Finnish. (or Swedish if they’re weird like myself)
Hearing. English. Is. (Perhaps not rare, but definitely and most certainly) Rare.
And I like it. I love it!!
For some strange reason I find it extremely exotic to hear someone speaking in English. It doesn’t matter if it’s an Indian IT-person, a Chinese restaurant owner or an exchange student from wherever, if you speak English loud enough for me to hear I will definitely find you interesting!! (NB! You can’t be a Finn, in that case it just won’t work) If you happen to have an interesting accent even better!
This particular English dude scored high on both points – not Finnish and dat British accent *ah*! (Come on! There is no way I’m the only one who feels this way?!)

So, dear English speaker who travelled to Klaukkala,  Finland 18.5.2015 on a bus that left from Helsinki at 13:25, I just want you to know you, and everyone else who speaks English, are the reason I love English!

Who would you want to look like?

Sometimes I have those moments of “Gosh, I wish I looked like her..!” (I think we all have them sometimes!) Today I want to share some of the most popular “want-to-be-her-people”. In other words the people I most often wish I looked like 🙂 Why am I having such a hard time putting my thoughts into words?!

Anyway – 4 wonderfully beautiful people I’d love to look like (sometimes 🙂 )

Jennifer Lawrence

I lovelovelove this photo of Jennifer Lawrence ♥

Although I lovelovelove her, I sometimes feel her make-up looks strange.. like it’s not doing her any good (too dark eyeshadow, too much stuff, etc. etc.) Either way she’s beautiful!!

Shailene Woodley

Prettyprettypretty I loved her with long hair, I love her in short! ♥

Emma Watson

The list wouldn’t be complete without her. No explanations needed.
(plus; I grew up wanting to be Hermione!)

Amanda Seyfried

I’ve always found her pretty, can’t point out what exactly it is, but there’s something that makes her unbelievably beautiful (just my opinion 🙂 ).
Not to mention her voice – Mamma Mia, Les Miserables, need I say more? … I didn’t think so!

As I mentioned before, most of the time I’m happy being me, this list applies to those moments we all experience (and don’t lie and say “I never feel that way”, we’re all human, we all feel it!)

Be happy – they become happy too!

I can’t seem to get enough of sharing these happiness-picture-text-image-things! I truly believe this world could be a much better (happier/nicer/more awesome) place if more people followed the path of happiness!!
Please, could you (the person reading this) please promise to genuinely try to live a life of happiness and love, rather than the life of judgement and doubt (and all those things)? Please?

Only dead fish go with the flow! If you want something to change you have to be alive and kicking or you’ll sink to the bottom of the sea where undiscovered sea-critters will devour every last bit of you… sorry, ecology and marine biology still in my mind… *heh..*

Happiness is courage! The courage to be happy is in everyone, but sometimes we’re not courageous enough to reach for the happy-courage. However, when we take that step towards happiness we make it possible for everyone else to get there too! Remember, when you help someone else you are sure to get help when you need it. That’s the way things work.

Simple as that! Now, dear inhabitants of the Earth, please be happy! Smile! Laugh! Be kind and loving to each other – we’re in a bad enough state as it is. We don’t need any more hatred in this world, please take courage and be happy. Find joy in the small things, and the big things will fall into place.

Who knows, your smile might just make someone else’s day!! 🙂
